Information about Buchanan Valley Fire Department

The Buchanan Valley Volunteer Fire Department has grown in leaps and bounds since being founded in 1979. The First Meetings were held in a garage until legal battles were overcome and the Fire Station was constructed in 1985 on land donated to the Fire Department. The first emergency call was answered in the spring of 1985. The first apparatus and equipment was purchased by Members or Donated by neighboring Departments.

Over the short history we have grown into one of the progressive Departments in the County. Highlights were starting a Medical Assist Team in 1989, purchasing our first new piece of apparatus in 1992 ( Engine 27-1 ), first custom specked apparatus in 2000 ( Special Unit 27 ), completing our 9500 square foot Activities Center in 2001, and upgrading again in 2003 with the purchase of Engine Tanker 27. As you can see we have very busy over our short history. In 2005 with the assistance of FEMA we are replacing all our SCBA’s with new Scott NXG2's, replacing all firefighting gear and the purchasing a 6000psi cascade/compressor. In 2008 we purchased a Pierce Arrow XT Engine Tanker.

With the hard work of our Members and the continued assistance of our residents our Fire Department will continue to grow in the future.
